About

Madrisahütte sits at 1663m in the Prättigau valley, Graubünden, on the border between the Appenzell Alps and the Säntis massif. Reach it from Malans or from the village of Madris in around 2–2.5 hours on foot. The hut also serves as a base for ascents of Säntis (2502m, 4–5 hours from the hut) and other peaks in the region. Summer hiking to nearby ridges and lakes is straightforward; winter access depends on snow conditions.
The hut is run by the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) and accommodates around 60 people in mixed dormitories. Meals are hearty and served daily during the season. Hot showers are available. The hut is usually open from April through October, though dates vary—check ahead for exact opening and closing weeks. No camping or bivouacking outside the hut.
Book direct by phone, especially for weekends and July–August, when the hut fills quickly. Groups of 10 or more should contact the hut 6–8 weeks in advance. The hut has a small shop stocking basic supplies, but bring your own snacks and water bottles to reduce what you buy. Payment is cash or card.
