Refuge Premassone

Rifugio Premassone sits at 1,587m in the Ticino Alps, accessible from the Val Verzasca. The approach from Sonogno takes 2.5 hours on marked trail, climbing steadily through chestnut and beech forest before opening onto alpine meadow. You can also reach it in 3 hours from Lavertezzo via the Scaredi pass. Most walkers use the hut as a base for day trips into the surrounding peaks or as a stage on longer valley-crossing routes.
The rifugio has 20 beds across simple rooms and serves meals to residents and day visitors. Expect basic but decent accommodation and straightforward mountain food. The hut operates year-round, though staffing is lighter outside summer months—contact ahead if visiting in shoulder seasons. There's no electricity from the mains; water comes from a spring.
Book directly by email or phone. Summer (June to September) fills quickly on weekends, particularly July and August; contact 2–3 weeks in advance for guaranteed space. Outside peak season, advance booking is less critical but still worthwhile. The hut lies on the main hiking network, so experienced walkers comfortable with unmarked terrain have more flexibility than those dependent on managed accommodation.
