About

Refuge Zoia sits at 2,021m in the Prättigau valley region of Graubünden, east of the Säntis massif. The main approach is from Schäfers in the south: allow 2.5 hours from the valley floor following the Schäfers Alp trail. From the north, you can reach the hut in 3 hours from Sämtis via the Alp Säntis route. The hut works as a junction point for longer traverses across the eastern Appenzell Alps.
Refuge Zoia operates year-round and accommodates around 30 guests in mixed dorm rooms and a few double rooms. The kitchen serves full meals at dinner and packed lunches for onward hiking. It has a small bar and a wood-heated common room. Showers and toilets are basic but functional. The hut is privately run and regularly maintains its facilities. Winter access depends on snow conditions; phone ahead before visiting November to March.
Book directly by phone, especially for weekends and July to September. The hut fills quickly on Friday and Saturday nights during summer. Solo hikers and smaller groups usually find space mid-week. Payment is cash or card; confirm payment methods when you call. The warden can advise on local route conditions and suggest nearby side trips to Säntis or onward valleys.
