Alpe Bolla

Alpe Bolla sits at 1129m in the Val di Blenio in southern Ticino, a quiet corner of the Swiss Alps where Italian culture and language dominate. Reach it from Dongio village (30 minutes' walk) or from Castello via a steeper 90-minute approach through larch forest. The hut works best as a base for day hikes into the higher valleys and peaks above the Val di Blenio, or as a stop on longer routes linking Ticino's valleys.
The hut has 10 beds spread across small rooms. The keeper provides meals on demand—expect simple, hearty food rather than fine dining. Water comes from a spring. There's no electricity grid connection, so bring a headlamp. The hut opens year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and you should confirm ahead. Summer sees the steadiest use, particularly July and August.
