Baita del Luca

Baita del Luca sits at 1070m in the Ticino Alps, on the northern slopes above the Val Verzasca. The hut is reached via a 2-hour hike from Lavertezzo village, following the river valley then climbing steeply through forest and meadow. An alternative approach comes from Sonogno at the valley head, taking 3 hours. Both routes are well-marked and straightforward hiking in good conditions.
The hut is a small, traditional stone building with 16 beds across mixed dormitories. The CAS Sezione Ticino manages it as a working base for hikers and mountaineers exploring the granite peaks and ridges of the region. Meals are available: the keeper prepares simple dinners and serves breakfast. There is no shower. The hut operates year-round, though conditions at this elevation mean winter visits require serious experience. Summer months (June to September) are reliably snow-free.

Winter climbing season (December to March) is less predictable but also less busy. Phone ahead if weather looks uncertain, as the hut keeper may close for maintenance or poor conditions.
