Cabin Pairolo

Capanna Pairolo sits at 1,347m in the Val Verzasca, a deep limestone gorge in southern Ticino. The hut is a 2.5-hour walk from Sonogno village, the road-end settlement in the valley. Most hikers approach from Locarno via the scenic Verzasca Valley floor. The final push climbs steeply through forest to reach the hut's terrace.
Capanna Pairolo holds 39 beds across multiple rooms. The SAC-affiliated hut serves simple meals and always has drinking water available. The building works as a base for day hikes into the surrounding granite peaks and as an overnight stop on longer Ticino traverses. The season runs from Easter through October. Expect a mix of alpine club members and independent trekkers, particularly on weekends.
Book by phone directly with the hut. July and August weekends fill 6–8 weeks ahead. Outside summer holidays, you can usually find space with a few days' notice. Half-board is standard but day visitors can eat lunch or buy drinks. The hut is staffed year-round for its operating season, so ring ahead to confirm opening dates if you're visiting early spring or late autumn.
