Baita Bongio

Baita Bongio sits at 945m in the Val di Fassa, in the Dolomites of northern Italy. The hut is a 2-hour walk from Pozza di Fassa village. Park in Pozza and follow marked trails up the pastures—the approach is gradual and well-signed. Most hikers use this hut as a base for day walks into the Fassa valley, or as a rest point on multi-day traverses of the Dolomites.

The hut serves traditional Ladin and Italian mountain food, with hearty pasta dishes and local cheeses. It has 30 beds split across simple rooms. Facilities include hot showers and a small dining room where other hikers tend to gather in the evening. The hut operates year-round, though it's quietest October to May. In summer, the surrounding pastures bloom with wildflowers and the hiking is excellent—expect busy weekends July and August.
