Bivacco Alpe Curgei

Bivacco Alpe Curgei sits at 1,350m in the Ticino Alps, accessible from the Val Curgei via a 2-hour hike from Sonogno. The approach gains 650m through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The hut's isolated position on the Alpe Curgei plateau makes it a solid base for ridge traverses and scrambles in the surrounding granite peaks. Poor trail markings mean you need solid map-reading skills; a 1:25,000 map of the region is essential.
The bivacco provides 8 beds in basic mountain shelter conditions. Expect a roof, walls, and bunks—nothing more. There's no guardian and no meals served. You must bring all food and water; a small natural spring sometimes runs near the hut but don't rely on it. The hut operates year-round, but winter access requires mountaineering skills and avalanche awareness. Summer and early autumn are practical seasons for most parties.
