Cabin Cristallina

Capanna Cristallina sits at 2,575m on the Cristallina massif in the Ticino Alps. Reach it from the village of Bosco Gurin in 4–5 hours via the Gries Pass route, or from Robiei lake in 3–4 hours. The final approach crosses open terrain with cairn markers. Most hikers approach from the south or west; the hut serves as a hub for traverses across the main ridge.

The hut holds 120 beds across multiple dormitories. The SAC/CAS Ticino section runs it. Hot meals are served daily when the hut is staffed; a self-catering kitchen allows you to cook your own food. Drinking water comes from a mountain spring. Basic services only—expect no shower, no electricity in rooms, no wifi. The hut opens from late April through October, with full service June to September. Winter visits require prior arrangement.

Book direct with the hut by phone or email at least 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August. July weekends fill quickly. Shoulder seasons (May, June, September) are easier to book with just 2–3 weeks notice. The hut serves both through-hikers and groups doing multi-day ridge crossings. Confirm meal availability when you book, especially if arriving outside peak season.
