Cabin Monte Bar

Capanna Monte Bar sits at 1,602m on the southern edge of the Ticino Alps, above the Val Verzasca. The hut is a 2.5-hour hike from Sonogno village (accessible by bus from Locarno), or 3 hours from the Lavertezzo trailhead. Most hikers approach via the scenic Verzasca valley route. The location offers straightforward access to surrounding peaks and ridges without requiring technical climbing skills.

The SAC/CAS Ticino-managed hut accommodates 44 people in mixed dormitories. Hot meals are served daily during the season, along with packed lunches for day trips. Drinking water is available throughout the hut, and WiFi connectivity means you're not entirely cut off. The hut operates year-round, though staffing and meal service vary in winter months—confirm before planning a winter visit. Standard SAC hut standards apply: bring your own sleeping bag, earplugs are advisable, and expect shared bathrooms.

Spring (May–June) and September offer more availability and reliable weather. Groups of six or more should book well in advance.
