Refuge Luigi Azzoni

Rifugio Luigi Azzoni sits at 1,860m in the Val d'Aosta, on the Italian side of the Alps near the Monte Rosa massif. The hut is accessible from the village of Gressoney-Saint-Jean via the Gressoney valley, a 2.5 to 3-hour hike depending on your pace and the route. This is not a technical climb—it's a hiking approach on established paths, though the terrain gets steeper as you gain the final 500m. The refuge works as a base for traverses toward higher peaks and as a staging point for longer valley walks.

The hut sleeps 20 people in simple dormitory-style rooms. Half-board and full-board options are available, with meals cooked on-site. The refuge has no WiFi. There's a small common area, and basic washing facilities. The hut typically opens from June through September, depending on snow conditions and staffing. Check directly about shoulder-season availability in May and October. The guardian can provide current conditions and route advice for onward travel.

Book by email or phone as soon as your dates are set. July and August fill quickly—aim to contact them at least 4 weeks in advance for peak season. Shoulder months (June, September) are more flexible. Expect to confirm your party size and whether you need half-board or full-board when you reserve. Pay by cash on arrival or arrange bank transfer in advance.
