Refuge Ratti-Cassin

Rifugio Ratti-Cassin sits at 1,670m in the Bergamasque Alps, in the Val Brembana valley east of Bergamo. Reach it from Carona by hiking the well-marked trail up the valley floor—roughly 2.5 hours on moderate terrain. The approach is straightforward and works as an acclimatisation day if you're planning longer ridge walks in the area. The hut itself serves as a base for day trips to nearby peaks and passes, including routes toward Pizzo dei Tre Signori and connections into the surrounding network of alpine meadows and limestone ridges.
The refuge holds 40 beds across simple dormitory rooms. Meals are available—expect hearty mountain food rather than fine dining. The kitchen serves dinner and breakfast; bring snacks for the trail if you're doing full days out. Water comes from the spring, reliable year-round. There's no electricity in the rooms, but the common areas have basic lighting. The hut operates year-round, though winter conditions make access unpredictable; check before travelling November through March.
Book by phone directly with the hut. Weekends fill quickly from June through September, so call ahead even for Friday arrivals. July and August demand booking at least 4 weeks in advance. The hut prefers phone contact over email, so have your dates and group size ready when you call. Half-board (bed, dinner, breakfast) is the standard arrangement; packed lunches are available on request.
