Refuge Stella

Rifugio Stella sits at 1,670m in the Ticino Alps, accessible from the Val Verzasca. The approach takes 2.5 hours from Sonogno and follows the Verzasca River valley before climbing steeply to the hut. The trail is well-marked and suitable for fit hikers with decent exposure in places. Summer access is straightforward; winter approaches require avalanche awareness.
The rifugio offers 13 private rooms with capacity for around 40 guests. Meals are available—book in advance if you want dinner. The hut has basic facilities including running water and a small kitchen area. It's open year-round, though traffic is heaviest June through September and during Easter holidays. The location makes it a solid base for day hikes in the surrounding granite peaks and ridges.
Contact the rifugio directly by email or phone to book. Reserve at least 2–3 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Outside peak season, a week's notice usually suffices. Confirm opening dates before visiting in winter or shoulder months, as staffing can be limited.
