Refuge Vincino

Rifugio Vincino sits at 1,160m in the southern Swiss Alps, accessible via hiking trails from the Valle di Muggio in Ticino. The main approach takes 2.5 hours from Morbio Inferiore, following well-marked paths through chestnut forests and alpine meadows. The hut serves as a base for day walks across the Muggio Valley and access to higher terrain toward Monte Generoso (1,701m).

The refuge operates as a simple mountain shelter with 20 beds in mixed dormitory rooms. Meals are available on request—expect straightforward home cooking based on seasonal supplies and what you've reserved in advance. There is no hot shower, but basic washing facilities are provided. The hut closes in winter; confirm opening dates before traveling, as staffing varies by season. Book accommodation directly by phone or email at least one week ahead, longer during summer weekends and Italian holidays when the hut fills with Swiss and Italian day-hikers.
