Im Fall

Im Fall sits at 1,450m in the Schöllenen gorge, a dramatic limestone canyon south of Göschenen in Uri. The hut is accessible year-round via a well-maintained hiking path that branches from the main Göschenen–Hospental road. Most hikers approach from Göschenen village (20 minutes on foot) or from the south via Hospental (1.5 hours). The gorge itself is the main draw—steep rock walls and the Reuss river rushing below create an intense setting that justifies the short approach.
The hut is a simple mountain inn run by the Schöllenen Werkstatt and focused on day visitors and through-hikers rather than overnight stays. It serves hot food, drinks, and coffee from a small kitchen. The space is cosy and functional, with enough seating for groups passing through. Most climbers and hikers using this hut are en route to higher valleys or peaks in the Gotthard massif. Opening hours are typically Wednesday to Sunday, though this varies seasonally—contact ahead if you're planning a weekday visit. The hut closes November through March.

The hut's real value is as a refueling point mid-hike rather than a destination in itself, but the Schöllenen gorge demands time to appreciate properly—plan at least an hour to explore the rock formations and river before moving on.
