Alp Spilau

Alp Spilau sits at 1,900m in Uri's eastern valleys, accessed from the village of Spiringen. The approach takes 2 hours on foot from the valley floor via established mountain paths. This is genuine working dairy pasture, not a tourist facility. The hut serves walkers moving between valleys and climbers using it as a base for nearby peaks.

The hut has 6 beds across one private room and shared accommodation. Meals focus on simple, hearty fare cooked on-site. There are no showers or WiFi—bring a headtorch and expect basic Alpine conditions. Water comes from the spring. The hut opens seasonally, typically June through September, depending on weather and staffing. Confirm opening dates before travelling.

Book by phone directly with the hut. Weekends and mid-summer (late June through August) fill quickly—contact at least 4-6 weeks ahead for these periods. Off-season weekday visits have more availability. Half-board (bed and meals) is standard. Bring cash for payment. The hut lies on established through-routes, so day-trippers sometimes call without booking, but sleeping space cannot be guaranteed walk-up.
