Windegghütten SAC

Windegghütten SAC sits at 1886m in the Uri Alps, accessible from multiple directions depending on your preferred approach. The most direct route follows the Windeggen valley from Guttannen (about 2.5 hours). From Göscheneralp to the east takes 3 to 4 hours and offers a wilder approach through high alpine terrain. Both trails gain 800m+ and require mountain fitness. Winter access is unreliable due to snow and avalanche risk.

The hut sleeps 41 guests across mixed dormitory rooms. The SAC-managed building has a self-catering kitchen if you bring your own supplies, though the warden serves meals most days—contact ahead to confirm availability. Drinking water comes from mountain sources. Basic amenities are standard for an alpine hut at this elevation. The season runs roughly June through September, though exact dates depend on snow cover and staffing. Outside summer months the hut may operate weekends only.

Book direct by phone or email. July and August are busy; reserve at least 6 weeks ahead for these months. June and September are quieter but weather is less reliable. Day visits for meals are usually possible if space permits, but call first. The hut appeals to hikers crossing Uri's high valleys and climbers accessing surrounding peaks. Most visitors are SAC members, though non-members are welcome.
