Berggasthaus Trift

Berggasthaus Trift sits at 2337m in the Trift valley above Grächen in Valais. Reach it from Grächen village (1619m) via a well-marked trail that takes 2.5 to 3 hours. The path climbs steadily through Alpine meadow and larch forest. From the hut, you can day-trip to Weisshorn's lower slopes or traverse toward Augstbord. Winter access is possible but snow conditions vary—check locally before attempting.
The hut holds 48 beds in mixed dormitories. Meals are served daily and include a simple breakfast and dinner menu; the kitchen can handle vegetarian requests with advance notice. Drinking water comes directly from the valley spring. There is no shower. The hut operates year-round, though it can be quiet in November and April. Heating is solid and bunks are comfortable enough for a sleeping bag.
Phone ahead to book your bed, especially for weekends and July-August. The hut fills quickly on Friday and Saturday nights during summer. Plan to arrive by 5pm to secure a good meal slot. Cancellations happen regularly, so it's worth calling a few days before if you have flexible dates. Pay cash on arrival if possible; card payments may incur a surcharge.
