About

Grünsee Mountain Lodge sits at 2,296m on the eastern side of the Valais Alps, above the village of Saas-Fee. Reach it in 2.5 hours from Saas-Fee village on a well-marked trail that climbs steadily through alpine meadow and rocky terrain. The hut anchors the Grünsee lakes circuit, a popular day-hike route that continues north across the Simplon Pass watershed. Access is hiking only; no cable car or mechanised transport reaches the hut.
The lodge holds around 60 beds in shared dormitory rooms. The kitchen serves dinner, breakfast, and packed lunches; self-catering is not an option, so plan meals accordingly. Hot showers are available. The hut operates from late May through mid-October, closing during winter and shoulder seasons. Mobile reception is reliable. SAC members receive a small discount on bed rates.
Book directly by phone during season. Aim to call at least 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends, when the hut fills with day-hikers and trekkers doing multi-day routes across the Valais. Weekday visits and June or September trips book easier. Arrival by mid-afternoon gives time to settle before dinner service.
