Cabin de la Tourche

Cabane de la Tourche sits at 2,198m in the Valais Alps, accessed via the Torgon area. Most parties hike in from Torgon (1,545m) in roughly 3 hours, following marked trails through alpine meadows and forest. The hut works well as a base for traverses in the Portes du Soleil region or as a waypoint on longer Valais ridge routes. Winter snow makes access unreliable November through April.
The hut holds 60 beds in shared dormitory rooms. Meals are served daily—expect simple mountain food suited to hungry hikers. Drinking water is available on-site. There is no self-catering kitchen, so you eat what the guardian prepares or bring packed food. The hut operates year-round but staffing is minimal in winter months, so confirm opening status before travel.
Book direct by email or phone. The hut fills quickly during July and August; reserve 6-8 weeks ahead for these months. June and September are less crowded and offer better weather stability than late summer. Half-board (bed plus dinner and breakfast) is standard. Arrive by early afternoon to help the kitchen prepare for dinner service.
