Refuge de Véran

Refuge de Véran sits at 1,608m in the French Alps, serving hikers in the Queyras region. The hut is accessible on foot from several valleys—most commonly from Château-Queyras village, a 3-hour approach through mixed forest and meadow. The route gains 700m steadily but stays well-marked. Summer approach times vary depending on your starting point, but plan for half-day hikes from nearby settlements. Winter access is unreliable and the hut typically closes November through April.
The FFCAM-managed refuge accommodates 27 people across a mix of dormitory beds and 2 private rooms. Evening meals and breakfast are served during the open season. The hut has basic facilities: running water, squat toilets, and no shower or WiFi. It's a functional mountain hut for walkers, not a hotel. The refuges operates mid-June through early October, with exact opening dates subject to snow conditions at altitude.

The hut accepts cash payments and provides standard refuge meals rather than à la carte dining. Bring a headtorch, warm layers, and a sleeping bag liner if you prefer one.
