Refuge des Dents du Midi

Refuge des Dents du Midi sits at 2,884m on the Dents du Midi massif, a fortress of rock overlooking the Valais. Reach it from the Ovronnaz cable car (1,359m) via the Lac de Taney trail, a 4-5 hour push that gains 1,500m steadily uphill. The route traverses alpine meadows before steepening into scree and rocky terrain. This is a serious approach—come with legs ready and proper boots. The hut serves mountaineers and strong hikers accessing the Dents peaks and traverses across the High Valais.
The refuge holds 20 beds in basic mountain accommodation. There are no meals served—bring food or use the self-catering kitchen to prepare your own. Water comes from the mountain. The hut opens mid-June to mid-September, weather dependent. Winter and shoulder seasons require prior arrangement with the guardian. Expect no-frills shelter: you're here for the climbing and the views across to Mont-Blanc and the Rhône valley, not creature comforts.

June and September have more space but bring warm layers: snow lingers and nights are cold at this elevation. Bring a sleeping bag. The hut lies on SAC section Argentine's territory; members get priority booking.
