Refuge 3A

Rifugio 3A sits at 2,912m in the Valais Alps, serving climbers and hikers on routes across the region's high passes and peaks. The hut lies on the approach to several 4,000m summits and sits on established trails connecting major Alpine valleys. Most parties reach it in 3 to 5 hours from valley trailheads depending on your starting point and fitness; check the route carefully as snow lingers into June on higher sections. The nearest road access is via the Saas valley or across from Zermatt.
The hut holds 90 beds split across multiple dormitories. Evening meals and packed lunches are available, and the kitchen supplies hot water for drinks and simple cooking. Showers are on-site—rare at this elevation. The refuge operates year-round, though conditions are severe in winter and spring; confirm access before planning off-season visits. SAC members receive standard rate reductions.
Book direct by email or phone as soon as your dates are set, especially for July and August when parties targeting the high peaks fill rooms weeks ahead. Weekend traffic is heavy May through September. Expect to pay slightly more if you book less than two weeks out.
