Refuge Città di Busto

Rifugio Città di Busto sits at 2482m on the border between Valais and the Lepontine Alps. The hut is reached from Nufenen Pass in 2.5 hours, or from the Goms valley side in 3–4 hours depending on your approach. Both routes are straightforward hiking with no technical climbing. Most parties approach from the Nufenen side via Ulrichen, making this a logical stop on east-west Alpine traverses or as a base for days in the surrounding peaks.
The CAI Sezione di Busto Arsizio manages this refuge. It sleeps 50 people across dormitory rooms. Half-board is available (dinner and breakfast included). The hut has running water, basic cooking facilities, and pit toilets. There is no WiFi. The refuge operates year-round, though services are limited in winter. The SAC (Swiss Alpine Club) reciprocal agreement applies to members of affiliated clubs. Expect a working refuge rather than a refined base—this is a climber's and traverser's hut, not a leisure destination.
Book well ahead for July and August; these months fill 6–8 weeks in advance. Outside summer, booking a week ahead is usually sufficient. Contact the managing section by phone to reserve beds. You'll need to confirm half-board choices when you call. Note that the hut is remote; there is no mobile signal here, so finalize arrangements before you leave the valley.
