Gandegghütte

Gandegghütte stands at 3029m on the ridge between the Mattertal and Saastal valleys in Valais. Reach it from Saas-Grund in 4.5 hours via the Kreuzboden cable car and Kreuzboden hut, or from Saas-Fee in 5 hours over the Längfluh pass. Most climbers approach via Kreuzboden, which cuts 90 minutes off the walk. The hut sits on the standard route to Monte Rosa's Dufourspitze and feeds into the Saas Valley's serious alpine touring network.

The hut sleeps 48 across dormitory rooms. Meals are served daily: hearty dinners built around mountain fare, breakfasts at 06:00, packed lunches available. Water comes from the tap; the hut has flush toilets despite the altitude and setting. WiFi is available if you need to check weather or send route plans. It's open year-round, though expect winter-only conditions from November to April—adequate ventilation and heating are there, but snow access requires winter skills. Bunks cost around CHF 35–50, meals CHF 15–25 depending on what you order.
