Brendlhütte

Brendlhütte sits at 1566m in the Nock region of Carinthia, on the high plateau between the Karawanken and Nockberge ranges. Reach it from the village of Bad Kleinkirchheim via the Nockberge hiking trail—roughly 2 hours on foot. The hut anchors the network of ridge walks that cross this limestone plateau; trails radiate to Hochnock (2,097m) and the Eisentalhöhe, making it a natural base for multi-day traverses in the region. Summer access is straightforward hiking. In winter, the road to nearby Ebene Reichenau closes, limiting access significantly.

The hut holds 63 beds across multiple rooms and operates year-round, though winter services are reduced. Half and full board are available, with meals focused on Austrian mountain fare. Facilities include a dining room with a stove, a small bar, and basic sleeping quarters. Water comes from a spring; there's no shower. The hut is staffed during the main season (May to October) and weekends in shoulder months. Outside this window, key-box access allows self-catering use.

The Nockberge hiking season peaks June through September; book at least 6 weeks before if you're planning that window. The hut operates under the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV). Check conditions before winter visits, as snow and wind regularly affect the plateau.
