Grillitschhütte

Grillitschhütte sits at 2,137m in the Kreuzeck group, a limestone range between the Möll and Drau valleys in Carinthia. Reach it from Wörth an der Möll via Penk: allow 3.5 hours to gain 1,337m on steep, exposed terrain. The final push is a scramble. In winter, avalanche risk makes the standard route unsafe; approach from the Drautal side instead. Summer access only for most walkers.
The hut sleeps 10 in basic mountain conditions. The warden provides simple dinners and breakfasts; bring any special dietary requirements in advance. There is no shower. Water comes from a spring. The hut runs mid-June to late September, weather permitting. Storms close it quickly. This is an Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) hut—bring your membership card for a modest discount, though non-members are welcome.
Book directly by phone well ahead for July and August; expect to wait on the line. The hut has no email or online system. Weekends fill 4–6 weeks early. Arrive by early afternoon to help with dinner prep. Expect a cash payment only—no cards. The hut is small and remote; self-sufficiency matters. Come prepared for cold nights and sudden weather changes, even in summer.
