Dreieckhütte

The Dreieckhütte sits at 2,530m on the Dreieck summit in the Schellgaden Group, within the Nockberge range of southern Carinthia. Reach it from the Eisentalhof car park near Reichenau in about 3.5 hours on well-marked trails. Most parties approach from the west via the Eisental valley and Schellgaden saddle. Descent routes branch toward Reichenau or down toward the Eisental, giving flexibility for loop hikes across the higher Nockberge peaks.
The hut is a solid stone building managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) with capacity for around 40 guests. It offers simple dormitory beds, a small dining room, and basic washing facilities with an outhouse. Meals focus on hearty mountain fare: the warden cooks dinners and serves substantial breakfasts. Water comes from a spring on the premises. The hut operates year-round, though winter access requires mountain experience and suitable conditions. Phone ahead to check staffing during shoulder seasons.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email for July and August stays, particularly Friday through Sunday. Weekday visits outside peak summer are usually available without advance notice. The hut sits on established routes through the Nockberge, so expect other parties in good weather. Winter access is possible but rare, and you must confirm conditions and availability with the warden beforehand.
