Eisenkappler Hut / Kapelska Koča

Eisenkappler Hütte sits at 1,555m in the Karawanken range on the Carinthia–Slovenia border. Reach it from Eisenkappel-Zell via the marked trail toward Hochstuhl; the walk takes roughly 2.5 hours. The hut also serves hikers crossing between Austria and Slovenia on the Karawanken traverse. The route is well-marked and gains 400m steadily through mixed forest.
The hut operates year-round and provides simple accommodation with dormitory beds and a small number of double rooms. Meals focus on hearty Alpine fare; book dinner ahead. The facility is run by local volunteers and the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV), so expect working-hut hospitality rather than hotel polish. The kitchen opens to a modest dining area with views toward the Karawanken crest. Water is reliable from the mountain spring.
