Breininghütte

The Breininghütte sits at 1526m in the Salzburg Alps, on the border between Salzburg and Tyrol. Reach it from the village of Weißbach by hiking south up the Weißbach valley—the trail climbs steadily through forest for about 2.5 hours. The hut is well-positioned as a base for ridge walks and peaks in the immediate area, and as a waypoint on longer traverses through the northern limestone ranges. The location works for day hikes from the valley or as an overnight stop on multi-day routes.
The hut is small and simple, with around 30 beds split between dormitories and a few double rooms. The OeAV manages the facility and the staff serves traditional Alpine meals in the evening and breakfast in the morning. Water comes from a spring. The hut stays open year-round, though winter conditions can be severe and access may require good mountain sense. Winter visits are quieter and suit experienced hikers.
Book directly with the hut in advance, especially for weekends and July–August. Contact them several weeks ahead if you're planning a summer visit. The hut fills regularly on fine weather weekends. Winter bookings are more flexible. Arrive by midday if possible, as the kitchen stops cooking in the early evening.
