Breininghütte
4.2About
The Breininghütte is a rustic, privately run alpine pasture hut on the Zwieselalm plateau in the Dachstein West region, high above the Gosau valley near the Salzburg–Upper Austria border. At roughly 1,522 m it enjoys a sunny terrace with sweeping views of the jagged Gosaukamm and the Dachstein glacier, close to the Gosaukamm ridge and the neighbouring Gablonzer Hütte. Run by the Höhenegger family, it is a day hut serving hearty home cooking (Hausmannskost) rather than an overnight refuge — there are no beds. It is a popular, family-friendly destination reached in minutes on foot from the top of the Gosaukammbahn cable car, and it doubles as a welcoming ski hut in winter. Because the gondola does most of the climbing, the hut is accessible to casual walkers, families and snow-shoers alike, while stronger hikers can walk up from the Gosau valley on the Herrenweg. It is generally open in summer from about mid-May to the end of October, and again during the winter ski season, making an easy, scenic stop on the Zwieselalm's network of gentle trails.
