Edtalmhütte

The Edtalmhütte sits at 1,334m in the Salzburg Alps, above the Salzach valley near Ramsau. Reach it from the village of Ramsau an der Salzach (30km south of Salzburg city) by hiking 2 hours up the Salzach gorge, a steep but steady ascent through forest. The trail passes through spectacular limestone canyon scenery and crosses several streams. The hut works as a base for day walks into the surrounding peaks or as a stop on longer traverses through the region.
The OeAV-managed hut offers 80 beds in mixed and small group rooms. Meals feature traditional Austrian food, with a full dinner menu and packed lunches available on request. The hut has hot showers and reliable water. It opens year-round but is most reliable May through October; winter visits need advance notice as staffing is limited. The location makes it accessible even for moderate hikers, unlike many Alpine huts that demand technical mountaineering skills.
Book directly with the hut 2–3 months ahead for summer weekends and July holidays. Email or phone during opening hours. October weekends and August are busy. The hut fills with local Salzburg hikers on sunny weekends, so midweek visits offer shorter wait times and easier booking.
