About

Gollehenalm sits at 1,580m in the Tennengebirge massif, roughly 25km south of Salzburg. Reach it from Annaberg-Lungötz via the Dachstein road and the Rauriser Böden trailhead. The hut lies 2–2.5 hours' walk southeast along marked paths through open pasture and mixed forest. You can also approach from the Rauriser Böden shelter in 90 minutes. The setting is genuine mountain pastureland, not a high-altitude refuge, so the hiking is moderate-grade and accessible year-round outside deep winter.
The Gollehenalm operates as a staffed mountain farm and hut run by the OeAV. It offers around 30 beds in simple dormitories. The kitchen serves hearty Austrian fare—Kaiserschmarrn, schnitzel, sour cream soups, and fresh bread. Expect local dairy products and mountain specialities. There's no shower, but washing facilities are available. The hut stays open Easter through November, though staffing varies in shoulder months. It works well as a base for day walks across the Tennengebirge plateau or as a one-night stop on longer valley traverses.
Book by phone (+43 6468 8227) or email well ahead during July and August—the hut fills with Salzburg-area families on weekends. May, June, September and October are quieter. Bring cash; card payments are limited. The hut doesn't welcome large groups in peak season without advance notice.
