Rathlucken Hut

Rathlucken Hütte sits at 1,592m on the Rathlucken saddle between the Tennen and Hagen mountains, south of Salzburg. The hut is reached from the north via the Tenneck car park near Annaberg-Lungötz—allow 2.5 to 3 hours to hike the 6km trail. From the south, the approach from Golling takes roughly 3 to 4 hours. The saddle position makes this a natural waypoint on longer ridge traverses through the Tennengebirge or as a base for day walks to neighbouring peaks like Hochkönig or Tennenspitze.
Rathlucken Hütte offers 35 beds in mixed and family rooms. The kitchen serves evening meals and breakfast; bring a packed lunch or buy one the night before. Facilities include a simple bar and solar-heated showers (hot water is limited). The hut is open year-round but winter access depends on snow conditions—check ahead in November, March and April. The building is run by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and maintains the sparse, functional character typical of working mountain huts rather than tourist destinations.
Book by phone direct with the hut. Weekends fill quickly from June through September, especially in the Salzburg school holidays. Call at least 4 to 6 weeks ahead for July and August. The hut accepts cash and bank transfer; confirm payment methods when you call.
