Schüttalm

Schüttalm sits at 1,537m in the Tennengebirge range south of Salzburg. The hut is accessible on foot from Annaberg-Lungötz via a steady 2-hour ascent through mixed forest, gaining roughly 700m elevation. The trail is well-marked and popular with families. You can also approach from the Lammertal valley to the south, adding an extra hour but offering gentler gradients. Parking is available at Annaberg village or at the Lammertal trailhead.
The hut operates year-round and sleeps around 25 people in mixed and private rooms. It serves hearty Austrian fare at lunch and dinner—expect traditional fare like Kaiserschmarrn and Gulasch. The facilities include a small bar and a south-facing terrace with views toward the Dachstein massif. The hut is managed by the Salzburg section of the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV). Water is available on-site; showers require advance notice. The hut offers good value for the region and works well as a base for day hikes across the Tennengebirge plateau or as a stopover on longer ridge walks toward the Hochkönig massif.
Book 3–4 months ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email; they speak English and German. The hut is quietest on weekdays in May–June and September, when you can often find space with a few days' notice. Winter access depends on snow conditions; ring ahead before attempting a winter approach.
