Permoosalm

The Permoosalm sits at 1,650m on the northern flank of the Tennengebirge, between Elsbethen and Anif south of Salzburg. Reach it in 1.5 hours on foot from the Elsbethen car park via a steady climb through mixed woodland. The trail is well-marked and gains 450m. Most hikers approach from the north, but the hut also connects to trails heading south across the Tennengebirge plateau toward Fürstalm and the Hochkönig massif. Summer walkers use it as a lunch stop; winter visitors come for the views across the Salzburg basin on clear days.
The hut sleeps 40 in shared dorms and private rooms. The kitchen serves traditional Austrian fare, including excellent bread and Bauernkrapfen. Tap water is reliable. The hut operates year-round, though staffing is thin from November through March—call ahead in winter. No shower facilities, but there is a toilet block. The OeAV manages the hut and maintains the surrounding trail network. Mobile reception is adequate.
Book direct by phone for weekend visits May through September. The hut fills on dry-weather Sundays. Weekday visits rarely require advance booking outside school holidays. Winter bookings (December–February) need 3–4 days' notice. The hut sits a short drive from Salzburg's urban fringe, making it ideal for half-day trips or as a launch point for longer Tennengebirge traverses.
