About

Stanzalm sits at 1780m on the northern edge of the Tennengebirge, above the Salzach valley. Reach it from Golling an der Salzach by hiking the Zinkenbach valley for 2.5 hours. The trail climbs steadily through beech forest, then opens onto alpine pasture where the hut comes into view. In summer, you can also approach from the Torrener Jöchl (1762m) if you're linking longer valley routes. The hut serves as a solid waypoint for day hikes across the limestone plateau or as a base for traversing toward Hochkönig.
Stanzalm is a traditional working alpine farm that also welcomes hikers. It operates year-round as a private hut and serves simple meals—expect hearty Austrian fare rather than fine dining. Capacity is modest, around 20-30 beds, with basic dormitory rooms. The hut has no shower facilities, only washbasins. Kitchen and dining areas are communal. Meals must be ordered ahead when you book. Water comes from a mountain spring.
Book directly by phone or email well in advance if you want accommodation in summer months. Weekends and July-August fill quickly. The hut is family-run and prefers advance notice so they can prepare meals. Winter access depends on snow conditions; confirm by phone before attempting winter visits. This is not a managed Alpine Club hut, so expect fewer tourists and a more authentic farm experience than commercial mountain lodges.
