Unterwandalm
3.4About
The hut operates year-round as a working alpine farm with accommodation for roughly 40 guests. Meals focus on traditional Austrian fare—schnitzel, goulash, hearty soups. They serve breakfast and dinner; packed lunches are available. Dormitory beds and a few private rooms provide basic but clean shelter. The hut has no shower facilities, only washing stations. An outdoor seating area catches afternoon sun. Cell reception is patchy; plan accordingly.
Book by phone well ahead during summer months. July and August fill quickly; aim to ring 6-8 weeks prior. The hut also takes walk-ins outside peak season if you don't mind uncertainty about bed availability. The OeAV recognizes the hut as part of their hut network, though it operates independently. Winter access depends on snow conditions and hut staffing—confirm opening dates before traveling in November or March.
