Admonter Haus

Admonter Haus sits at 1,725m in the Gesäuse National Park, eastern Styria. Reach it from Admont village in the Enns Valley. The standard approach takes 3 hours from Admont via the Johnsbachtal valley trail. The route follows the Johnsbach stream through gorge terrain before climbing steadily to the hut. Alternative access comes from the south via Roßleithen, adding 90 minutes. Snow lingers above 1,600m into May, so winter routes demand caution.
The OeAV Sektion Admont runs a 60-bed hut with a mix of dorm and private rooms. Meals are hearty and filling: expect Wiener schnitzel, Erdäpfelpuffer (potato pancakes), and regional specialities. The kitchen serves breakfast, packed lunches, and three-course dinners. Water comes from a mountain spring. Pit toilets and basic washing facilities are standard for this elevation. The hut opens May through October. In shoulder months (May, September, October), book 1–2 weeks ahead. July and August demand 6–8 weeks' notice.
