Lahnalm

Lahnalm sits at 1,850m in the Seckauer Tauern range between the Seckau and Pöls valleys in Styria. Reach it from Seckau village (about 520m) via a 4-5 hour hike following the Seckauer Bach valley, then steeply up through forest and alpine meadow. The route is well-marked and consistently steep but manageable. From the Pöls valley side, the approach is shorter but more direct. Allow 2.5-3 hours from the Preßriegel area. The hut works as a base for ridge walks toward Hochsöls (2,331m) or as a stop on longer traverses of the Seckauer Tauern.
The OeAV-managed hut offers 40 beds in mixed dorms and some double rooms. Meals are hearty and filling—expect schnitzel, stews, and pasta alongside vegetarian options. The kitchen serves hot water and tea throughout the day. Water comes from a spring near the hut and is clean but you should carry treatment tablets or purification tablets for safety. The hut operates year-round, though July-August are busiest. Winter access is possible but requires mountain experience; check conditions directly with the hut.
Book online through the OeAV website or email the hut directly. July weekends fill 6-8 weeks ahead. June, September, and October are quieter and offer reliable weather for ridge walking. Arrive early on weekday evenings to secure a bed without advance reservation, though this isn't guaranteed during peak weeks. The hut is cash-preferred but accepts cards—confirm payment methods when booking.
