Alpenrosehütte

The Alpenrosehütte sits at 2,195m in the Kienthaler Alps, a quieter corner of Styrian high country. Approach from the Kienthaler Sattel car park: 2.5 hours on foot via marked trail. The hut works well as a base for ridge walks across the surrounding 2,400m summits or as a night stop on longer traverses. This is working terrain, not a tourist destination.

The hut sleeps 20 in mixed dormitories. Meals are available on request; bring cash and order food when you book. Water comes from the spring outside. There's a small wood stove for evening warmth. The OeTK Alpine Gesellschaft Kienthaler manages it as a simple facility with basic comfort—expect a mattress, blankets, and nothing else. Open year-round, though snow blocks the car park access from November to May; winter approaches require serious route-finding skills and crampons. The walk-in time extends to 4 hours in deep snow.

Book directly with the guardian by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead during July and August. Outside summer months, a phone call a few days before is usually enough. The hut fills on weekends with Austrian mountaineering club members, so Friday nights need early booking. There's no internet; bring cash for meals and any emergency supplies you need.
