Anlaufalm

Anlaufalm sits at 982m in the foothills of Styria, accessible by car via a steep forest road or on foot from the Anlauftal valley. Most hikers approach from Knittelfeld or the surrounding villages, with trail times of 1.5–2 hours depending on your starting point. The hut occupies an exposed position above the tree line, giving views across rolling limestone terrain toward the Seckauer Tauern. Access is straightforward year-round on maintained paths, making it a reliable base for day walks in the mid-Alpine zone.
The hut sleeps around 30 people in dormitory rooms and private double rooms. Meals focus on Styrian specialities—the kitchen prepares hearty soups, schnitzel, and local cheeses for both residents and day visitors. Hot showers are available. The alm operates year-round, though staffing and meal service are reduced in winter months; confirm ahead before visiting December–February. Summer weekends attract families and casual hikers, so expect a relaxed atmosphere rather than serious mountaineering.
Book directly by email or phone. The alm fills quickly during July and August, especially Saturdays; book 3–4 weeks ahead for these periods. Outside summer, booking a few days in advance is usually sufficient. Half-board (bed and dinner) is standard. Ask about opening hours and winter meal availability when you call or write.
