Haindlkarhütte

Haindlkarhütte sits at 1121m in the Sölktal valley south of Liezen in Styria, making it accessible for day hikers and families exploring the lower Alpine foothills. Reach it via the Sölktal road from Liezen or Schladming. Most people approach on foot from Stein an der Enns, a 2-hour hike through mixed forest that gains 400m steadily. The hut also serves as a waypoint for longer valley walks linking toward Sölk village and the surrounding network of hiking trails.
The hut is a simple mountain inn operated year-round, offering basic accommodation and meals. It has capacity for around 30 guests in shared dorm rooms and a handful of double rooms. Flush toilets and water are available. The kitchen serves traditional Austrian fare—schnitzel, kasnocken, goulash—and takes care of hikers' standard requirements. There is no pretense here; it functions as a working mountain hut for the local community and through-hikers alike.
Book directly by phone or email, especially for weekends during July and August when families using the Sölktal popular walking network fill available beds. Outside summer months it is much quieter. Winter access depends on snow conditions and road clearance. Arrive early on summer Saturdays or call ahead to confirm bed availability. The hut is popular with groups, so groups of six or more should book several weeks ahead.
