Mödlinger Hut

The Mödlinger Hütte sits at 1,523m in the Fischbach Valley near Mixnitz in Styria, about 90 minutes south of Vienna. Reach it on foot from Mixnitz village (45 minutes) or from the Peggau-Deutschfeistritz area (1.5 hours). The hut serves as a base for walks across the Hochschwab range and day hikes in the surrounding limestone hills. Summer routes to the hut are straightforward; winter access depends on snow conditions.
The OeAV Sektion Mödling operates this 40-bed hut from May through October, with weekends and peak season requiring advance booking. The kitchen serves hot meals and packed lunches; bring cash. Bedrooms have 2–4 beds with blankets and pillows provided. The hut has running water and outside toilets—no showers. Heating is by wood stove. It's a traditional mountain shelter, not a resort.
