Oberst Klinke Hut sits at 1486m on the western slopes of the Hochlantsch massif in Styria's Semmering Alps. Reach it from Spital am Semmering (27km south of Vienna by rail) via the Hirschenkogel trail. The hut is a 3.5-hour walk from the valley. Most hikers approach from Payerbach to the east, a 4-hour route that gains 900m. The location makes it a logical overnight base for crossing the ridge to Hirschenkogel (1858m) or continuing to Rax.
The hut operates year-round and is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV). It has 40 beds split between shared rooms. Meals are home-cooked; order dinner when you book. The hut carries local wines and a small selection of spirits. There's no hot shower but washroom facilities are basic and adequate.
