Adolf-Pichler-Hut

The Adolf-Pichler-Hütte sits at 1977m in the Zillertal, about 20km south of Mayrhofen. Most hikers approach from Mayrhofen via the Zemmtal valley, a steady 2–2.5 hour walk following the Zemmbach stream. The path gains 600m and is well-marked throughout. You can also reach the hut from the south via the Zemmgrund if you're linking longer routes. The location makes it a logical stop on multi-day traverses across the Zillertal Alps.
The hut is managed by the Österreichischer Alpenverein (OeAV) and has 60 beds across basic dormitory rooms and a few doubles. The kitchen serves hearty Austrian meals—expect Kaiserschmarrn, Erdäpfelsuppe, and decent coffee. There's a small bar. Facilities include a shower (hot water included) and basic bunk bedding. The hut operates year-round but is quietest in November and April. Summer weekends and July bring steady traffic. WiFi is unreliable; power is available for charging.
Book directly by phone, especially for weekends or peak weeks. July and August require booking 4–6 weeks ahead. Outside summer, you can usually find a bed with a few days' notice. The hut fills fastest Friday to Sunday. Expect to pay €25–35 for a dorm bed including breakfast. Half-board (dinner included) costs €40–50 per person. Payment is cash only on arrival unless arranged in advance.
