Jausenstation Gamsblick

Jausenstation Gamsblick sits at 1,850m on the north slope of the Zillertal, reached via the summer road from Fügenberg (10km, 20 minutes by car) or by hiking from Fügen (4 hours). Most visitors arrive by foot from the valley floor, following marked trails that gain 1,000m steadily through beech and spruce forest. The hut occupies an open vantage point above the tree line with views across to the Ziller valley ridges.

This is a day-hut and simple mountain restaurant rather than an overnight refuge. The kitchen serves traditional Tyrolean snacks: Kasnocken, Speckbrot, and hearty soups. Expect 60 seats, mostly outside on the south-facing terrace. Water comes from a spring on the property. The toilet block is basic but functional. Jausenstation Gamsblick opens May to October, weather dependent. Winter closures are common in snowy spells. This hut works well as a rest point on longer valley hikes or as a turnaround for walkers wanting genuine altitude without technical climbing.

The hut operates on a drop-in basis for day visitors. Phone ahead (+43 664 53 75 376) if you're arriving with a large group or in peak summer months (July–August), when the terrace fills quickly on weekends. The owner prefers calls to advance bookings, as capacity depends on staffing. Winter opening dates vary annually; confirm before planning off-season visits.
