St. Pöltner Hut

St. Pöltner Hut sits at 2481m in the Rätikon range, above the Schesaplana valley in eastern Vorarlberg. Reach it from Brand in 4 hours via the Schesaplana route, or from Bürs-Büserberg in 5 hours. The trail is steep and exposed in sections. Most hikers approach from the Brand side, following the marked path through alpine meadows to the rocky summit zone.

The OeAV Sektion Sankt Pölten operates this 67-bed hut as a simple mountain base. Meals are served daily: substantial dinners and hearty breakfasts. The kitchen is basic but functional. There are no showers—water is cold and scarce at this elevation. WiFi is not available. The hut stays open June through September; opening and closing dates shift with snow conditions, so confirm before planning winter visits. Beds are in dormitory rooms and a few smaller spaces. The location works well for ridge walks, peak bagging in the Appenzell Alps, and traverses toward Schesaplana or westward into Liechtenstein.
