Krimmler Tauernhaus

Krimmler Tauernhaus sits at 1,620m in the Zillertal, offering a gateway into the Zillertal Alps. Reach the hut from Mayrhofen in 5–6 hours via the Zillertal hiking trail, or approach from the Ziller valley floor on established paths. The location works as both a destination hut and a transit point for multi-day ridge traverses heading toward the Zillertal's higher peaks.
The hut holds 59 beds across multiple rooms and serves hearty Alpine meals. Half-board is standard: expect substantial dinners and breakfasts to fuel the next day's climbing. The kitchen supplies packed lunches on request. Basic but clean facilities include washbasins and cold showers; hot water availability is limited. The OeAV (Austrian Alpine Club) manages the hut and keeps it open from June through September, depending on snow conditions.
Call ahead to book, especially for weekends and July–August weekends when the hut fills regularly. Book 4–6 weeks out for summer Saturdays. The hut accepts telephone reservations year-round, though email confirmation helps. Staff speak German and basic English. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure a bed; the hut enforces a strict check-in time. Bring your own sleeping liner.
