About

Zittauer Hütte sits at 2,328m in the Zillertaler Alpen, east of the Zillertal valley. Approach from Finkenberg village (3–4 hours) via the Übergangsjoch pass, or from Mayrhofen via the Holländerstraße and Scharte (4–5 hours). The hut works well as a waypoint on ridge traverses linking the Zillertal to the Zillergrund, or as a base for ascents of the surrounding peaks including Hochfeiler (3,510m). Trails are clear but involve sustained elevation gain and exposed sections at height.
Zittauer Hütte is operated by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV). The hut holds around 80 beds in mixed and smaller rooms. Meals are provided (half-board typical), with hearty Austrian Alpine fare. Hot showers are available. The hut runs year-round but is most reliably staffed from June through September; winter and shoulder seasons require advance confirmation. Water and basic supplies are sourced locally; there is no mobile signal.
Book directly by email or phone at least 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August. July and the first two weeks of August are fully booked; June and September offer more flexibility. Specify your arrival date, party size, and meal preferences when booking. Payment is cash or bank transfer; some hut staff accept card but this is not guaranteed. Cancellations made less than two weeks before your booking date may incur a fee.
