About

The Richterhütte sits at 2,263m in the Zillertal Alps, roughly 5 hours' hiking from Mayrhofen. The standard approach climbs via the Zamser Grund valley, gaining 1,200m elevation. In summer, a cable car and mountain bike trail from Mayrhofen cut the hiking approach to around 3 hours. Snow closes the hut November to May, so check conditions before heading up in shoulder months.

The hut manages 80 beds across mixed dormitories and small double rooms. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard; packed lunches are available. The kitchen serves traditional Austrian fare—expect substantial portions. Hot showers cost extra. The hut has no electricity connection, relying on solar panels and gas generators, so charge devices beforehand. Cooking facilities for self-caterers are limited, so plan accordingly. July and August see full capacity regularly.

Book direct by email or phone at least 6 weeks ahead for July and August. In June and September, 2–3 weeks' notice usually works. The hut fills quickly on weekends year-round. Confirm your arrival time when booking—staff need notice for dinner preparation. Payment is cash only; there's no card facility on the mountain.
